Embedded hacking at RMLL
Some people of the Emdebian team were present at the RMLL (also known as LSM) in Bordeaux this year.
Philippe De Swert and Benjamin Henrion gave a presentation about the basic Emdebian building system and
hacking the intersil 3839. Some progress was made hacking this cheap wireless acces point which contains a
prism54 chip. We managed to build a new kernel for the device and the basic userland (busybox). However we
did not manage to find a way to reflash the device because we lacked a decent JTAG to do so. If more
progress is made we will certainly keep you posted.
On the less serious side we also cruised through the land of the GPL. We even have a picture to prove
that there are professional GPL installers in France. There was also a nice "failing" demonstration of the newest
French tramway system. It is a new system that takes his power from a rail on the ground instead of using the
more common method. Unfortunately this does not seem to be very reliable technology, but luckily this was backed
up with some really cute yellow towing trucks. This is also the right moment to thank P2 who drove us from Leuven
(Belgium) to Bordeaux and back, and also joined us in the embedded hacking sessions. Also many thanks to Carlos
for providing me with pictures from my presentation.
